Ame here, just wanting to say what a wonderful time I had Friday night!
It was awesome to see how much interest and support we recieved from stranger
and friend alike.
I arrived at about 4pm at Fierce to get ready. After
saying hellos and gabbing a while with friends I sat down to put on the
finishing touches on my costume. (Yes I am a procrastinator!) Jeannie
was next to arrive, then Mari and Akantha finished the parade in. Getting
ready was thankfully easy, usually something goes wrong...although I
think I had enough hairspray in my hair to stand up a wet noodle!
>>Fast Forward to 7:30pm.
We finally had everything set up and all there was left to do was dance!
With my usual "what are we waiting for??" attitude the show started with
a little improv to DJ Rana. About two hours and 12 dances later a very
tired but exhilarated Alchemy took there final bow.
Fierce, thank you
for your encouragement and support! Girls, thank you for your dedication
and true talent. I have always loved belly-dance and for me to say that
"I am a belly-dancer," fills me with pride and joy. Here's to a great next month!

Mari reflecting back on our first First Friday show.
We met up beforehand dressed and ate sushi (and edamame!) at Wicked Wasabi
and then got prepared to boogie. At first I was worried that we would be
cold, but we did so much dancing we didn't get cold at all until we stopped.
It was a blast. I had more fun than I was expecting even. We performed a mix
of choreographies and Tribal Fusion numbers. Here's the playlist:
Alchemy's choreography to Disney's Aladdin (quartet with veils)
Amaya's choreography to Amayagueña (quartet with veils)
Ame and Jeannie's choreographed duet to Disney's We are Siamese
Jasmine Jahal's choreography to Medhat Saleh's Waady (quartet)
DeAnne's choreography to Light Rain's City of Dreams performed as a zill solo by Mari
Khafif's choreography to The Cure's Lullaby performed by Ame, Jeannie, and Mari
Alchemy's choreography to The Red Elvises's I Want to See You Belldyance performed by Ame and Jeannie
Tribal fusion was also done to:
I Dream of Genie soundtrack and remix
Godsmack's Voodoo
Turku's Agri Dagindum Uctum
Solace's Blessing
and whatever the DJ at Fierce was playing!
Thanks to my fellow Alchemy girls, our family, the sultan, our new groupies,
all of you that watched and encouraged us, and even those of you that walked
by snickering or attempting to mimic our dance. All of you help to make us
realize how hard we work to do what we've done and how much we owe to our
supporters.

Jeannie, here, to give you an inside view of my night
at First Friday last night. Ah, our first public
performance as Alchemy. This has been a dream of ours
for some time now, and finally, we have taken the
leap.
What can I say? For my part of the action, I had a
fantastic time! For those of you who were there last
night, I was wearing the purple. We danced for about
two hours in front of Fierce (854 Broad Street) during
First Friday festivities in downtown Augusta
performing solos, duets, trios, and quartets.
Everything from choreographed Fusion pieces to
full-out Tribal group improv was on the menu, and I’d
say the crowd ate it up!
There were so many nice people who stopped by to watch
our performance that we felt right at home. We met
would-be dancers (yes, we do workshops, just ask),
drummers (yes, we’d love to dance with live music,
thanks), we met folks who just wanted to watch us
strut our stuff (yes, we tend to strut ;) ). And, we
enjoyed meeting each and every one of you.
Our night ended at Argos where we danced to some great
music and enjoyed the Rocky Horror Picture Show
performance. Yes, ladies and gents, I was a Rocky
Virgin before last night. If you are even remotely
interested in Rocky Horror, see it live, it’s a
million times better, and the people with Erotic
Nightmares really do it up right.
Thanks to so many: To the fabulous folks at Fierce for
allowing us to take over their store front. To the
Sultan for being so generous with time, energy, smiles
and Rocky Horror tunes. To our wonderfully supportive
families for stopping by throughout the night and
lending their smiling faces to the crowd. Most
importantly, thanks to those who stopped by to watch
us dance on a public street. Without a gracious and
receptive audience, where would we be? Thanks to Mari,
Ame, and Akantha for being so much fun to dance and just
be with. One more thanks: Thanks Josh J! Our very
first groupie! :D
