Q- What is Tribal Group Improv?

A- It is un-choreographed group dancing to either live or recorded music that the dancers are familiar with. There is a leader or leaders who communicate to the other dancers what moves or series of moves come next via their posture, arm movements and other signals.

Q- Where can I learn to dance like that?

A- Mari teaches beginning classes at the Warren Rd. Community Center located on Warren Rd. off of Washington Rd. Classes are $5 each and are held Mondays from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Jeannie and Donna teach classes at the Y as well. Email for info on those.

Q- Can men learn this dance too?

A- Of course! Classes are open to all people: that means all sizes, colors, shapes, as well as genders. In traditional Middle Eastern dance, both sexes dance. A male bellydancer we particularly admire, for example, is John Compton.

Q- How long does it take until you can perform?

A- It depends on how much effort you put into it. It only took some of us a matter of months until we were ready for a public show; others never want to perform in public.
